Kankakee County is proud to have been recognized statewide recently for our commitment to energy efficiency.
In May 2025, the County Board approved LED lighting upgrades and motion-sensing technology at three county facilities. While the total project cost was $174,283.42, strategic use of ComEd energy efficiency incentives reduced the county’s local investment to $32,485.82.
The results speak for themselves. In just over seven months, year-end comparisons with 2024 show an 11.6% reduction in overall energy consumption and a 23% decrease in peak demand usage.
These improvements reflect smart planning, responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and our continued commitment to building a more efficient and sustainable Kankakee County.
